The Prototype (Mantel of Theseus)
Glowmantle began as a basement prototype: tiled, patterned, imperfect — but with presence. It proved the core idea: build a mantel instead of buying one, and learn by doing.
Where It’s Going — A Configurable Mantel System
The next phase is a small, customizable line that keeps the DIY soul but streamlines the build. Think kits with choices, so no two mantels are exactly alike.
- Interchangeable panels: tile, wood, or stone veneer faces you can swap.
- Width & height options: preset sizes with trim packs for clean fit.
- Lighting: optional under‑shelf LEDs with hidden wiring channels.
- Finish kits: stain/paint recipes and sealers that actually hold up.
- Hardware: bracket choices for solid install on different wall types.
- Plan tiers: free basic cut‑list, paid detailed build guide, and a “pro pack” with jigs/templates.
Materials & Specs
- Shell: plywood or solid poplar; face: tile/veneer/wood slats.
- Target weights and safe mounting loads documented.
- Routing for cable raceways (lighting / TV lines).

We’ll add build photos and finish options as the line evolves.
Next Steps
- Clean up a Gen‑2 prototype with a repeatable cut‑list.
- Draft sizing matrix (S / M / L) and bracket pairings.
- Shoot a quick build log; collect feedback from early testers.
